ABSTRACT:
The circle of excellence (self anchoring) one of the technique used in the neurolinguistic programme (NLP) harnesses the nursing students positive, resourceful qualities and brings them to fruition in their day to day experience and thereby helps in the academic success of the nursing students. This article deals with the circle of excellence benefits, and steps of circle of excellence in improving academic performance of the nursing students.

INTRODUCTION:
If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I had not had it at the beginning- Mahatma Gandhi.
Nursing student’s academic failure is a phenmenon of growing international interest, not only because of its economic impact but also it negatively affects the availability of future nurses in different health care systems.
To recruit the nursing students with the highest probability of academic success, an open challenge for universities is to recruit nursing students who have previously demonstrated superior scholastic aptitudes that appear to be associated with a greater likelihood of academic success.(Lancia, 2013).
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy createdby RichardBandler and JohnGrinder in California, United States in the 1970s.
NLP's creators claim there is a connection between neurological processes (neuro), language (linguistic) and behavioral patterns learned through experience (programming), and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life.
The Circle of Excellence is a basic self-anchoring process originally developed by Dr. John Grinder, co-creator of NLP in 1970's. Circle of Excellence can be used to elicit, create and stabilize desired states.
Circle of Excellence uses a kinesthetic anchor to activate a moment of Excellence, which is one of the most powerful NLP technique which helps the nursing students to master their minds by getting the qualities that they desire for their academic achievements.
Benefits of circle of excellence:
Circle excellence, excercises helps the nursing students to gain insight about their strength and weakness, interpret their behavior and direct it towards healthy attitudes for better academic performance
In addition it also helps the nursing students in the improvement of their
· Self confidence
· Self efficacy
· Self reliance
· Photographic Memory
· Attention
· Concentration
· Abstract and concrete thinking
· Emotional intelligence
· Time management skills
· Personality development
· Life skills
· Adaptive Coping styles
When this technique is mastered it brings a delightful turn in the student’s minds and they will be able to overcome their examination anxiety, fear, score high and feel satisfied with their academic achievements.
Steps:
It is a way of gathering powerful internal states in the unconscious and making them available when we need them.
It doesn't actually create competence in a skill which the student’s desire. Rather, it assumes the ability in its place so it gives the ability to summon up the confidence for performing a skill.Nursing students can be directed to practice the below said steps to improve their academic performance.
Step 1:
Draw an imaginary invisible circle on the floor, about 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in front of them.
Step 2:
They mustgo inside the circle and imagine a time that they were wonderful at what they want to be doing. Ask them to imagine that everything went smoothly, they are bright, funny, happy, confident, full of energy and a great success at their task especially related to their academic activities.
They are balanced, creative, powerful or any other positive state of their choice and flood their body with the good feelings of confident performance in their examinations.
Encourage the nursing students to breathe in, breathe out and emotionally capture the feeling of excellence using whatever role models or scenario that works for them.
An outside observer student’s own classmates can actually see noticeable changes in their breathing and posture.
Step 3:
Encourage the nursing students todevelop a full visual, auditory, kinesthetic representation of the state and use all their senses to actually feel what it's like to be in that state.
See themselves in the circle being wonderful. Visualize it fully. Feel the greatness and calm. When they have added enough resources, they can step automatically into the powerful state they've created within the circle. As soon as they step into the circle, they can imagine it's as if they step into that person,e.g. receiving an award or gold medal that sets of states, that set of superpower being and scored higher in their academics.
Step 4:
It’s time for them to move into the circle of excellence and step into the picture.Anchor this as a resource state so that they can bring it up at any time they require it. In other words, figure out how to draw upon this state at will by practicing it, and then associating some mental cue with its bringing forth. That might be tapping their fingers, holding their arms in a certain way or whatever. As Buddha said, use what's virtuous that works. Hence, they will have mental state that they need at will.
CONCLUSION:
Failure is part and parcel of academic success, where we learn about ourselves and ways that don’t work. When we fail we become more intelligent and gain more experience to understand the gaps in our success.Hence this circle of excellence anchoring technique if mastered regular will be helpful for the nursing students to succeed in their academic goals.
